Japanese Language Workshop at Universiti
Sains Malaysia 2008
The Workshop
was held on Monday, November 22, 2008 at Balai Pesiban Agung, School
of Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang.
Students who participated in the Workshop had the opportunity
to learn Yosakoi dance and also to make onigiri (a snack consisting
Japanese rice formed into triangle or oval shapes, often wrapped
in seaweed).
Yosakoi dance was taught by Master Kouya, a volunteer dance teacher,
and his team members.
Participants also had the chance to observe the making of makizushi
(rolled sushi) and onigiri by Chef Mongkol Piyawong, personal cook
to H.E. Mr. Hideaki Hoshi, Consul-General of Japan.

Chef Mongkol demonstrates the making of onigiri. The audience
is enthralled by his skills at completing an onigiri in a few
seconds. |
The Chef also shows the making of makizushi (rolled sushi).
|
Students have a chance in making their very first onigiri.
The experience is a merit for their future trial in Japanese
cooking. |
