Opening Ceremony of Japanese Design Today 100 at Adiwarna Gallery, USM
The opening ceremony for the “Japanese Design Today 100” exhibition was held on Wednesday, April 21 at the Adiwarna Gallery, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang and
was officiated Professor Omar Osman, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Mr. Tetsuro Kai, Consul-General of Japan, Mr. Moenir Ari Soenanda, Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia and Mr. Vorndet Viravakin, Consul-General of Thailand
and Mr. Akihiko Murata; Director of the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur.
The traveling exhibition, “Japan Design Today 100,”showcases a collection of approximately 100 of the finest examples of Japanese design produced from the 1990’s to present-day.
The selection focuses on products used in daily life such as electrical appliances, furniture, cars and many others. The designs reflect the society and the times in which they were created.
One can also see how culture and lifestyle of the people have greatly influence the designs in each product.
Through this exhibition visitors can gain insight into the nature of modern and contemporary Japanese art.
“Japanese Design Today 100” was organized by the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur and co-organized by Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah, School of the Arts, USM
and Consulate-General of Japan at Penang. The exhibition opens to public from 19th April- 15th May 2010 at Adiwarna Gallery, School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia.
