Japan Festival 2010 at Universiti Utara Malaysia
Japan Festival 2010 was held at Universiti Utara Malaysia’s (UUM) Dewan Tan Sri Othman on 5th October 2010.
This event was organized by the Consulate-General of Japan, Penang to introduce the Japanese culture to Malaysian students.
Among the activities that were held were Chado (Japanese tea ceremony),Ikebana (Japanese art of flower arrangement),
Origami (Japanese art of paper folding) and Kimono wearing demonstration.

Japanese Style Handicraft Workshop
Students also got to try their hands on some Japanese style handicraft such as making a cellular phone strap using
Japanese style patterned cloth.
Kokeshi Dolls Exhibition
A mini Kokeshi doll exhibition was also set up for display. Kokeshi dolls are Japanese handmade
wooden dolls originated from northern Japan. The distinctive features of the dolls are enlarged heads
with simple trunk body painted with typical kimono design. The Kokeshi doll exhibits are brought
in for display by the courtesy of the Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur. The students were also entertained
with some DVD shows introducing Japan.
The Japan Festival was also attended by four neighbouring high schools in Kedah and Perlis.
The students enjoyed themselves very much as they could learn more about the Japanese culture.
