The 29th Japanese Language
Speech Contest 2008 (Penang Preliminary)
The Speech Contest was held on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the
Caring Society Complex, Jalan Utama, Penang.
It was co-organized by the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang,
the Japan Foundation in Kuala Lumpur, the Penang Japanese Association,
Malaysian Japanese Society and Penang Japanese Language Society.
There was one participant in the Student Category and 14 participants
in the 90-Day Class Category. There was no participation in the
91-Day Class Category this year.
Mr. Mohamad Basil Hazman bin Baharom, the only one participant
in the Student Category with the title of speech World Peace, received
a special award from the jury, namely the latest model of digital
camera.
In the 90-Day Class Open Category, Ms. Koay Tze Siew with the title
of speech From Now on to the Future, won the First Prize, while
Ms. Wai Kit Eng won the Second Prize with the title of speech Treasure
Your Loved One before It Is Too Late. The 2 winners will represent
Penang at the national level of the Japanese Language Speech Contest
on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur Hall.
The first winner of each class, namely 90-Day and 91-Day at the
national level of the Speech Contest will be rewarded all-paid study
tour programme to Japan for 8 days.

In advance of Penang Preliminary, the 22nd Japanese Language Speech
Contest 2008 (Ipoh Preliminary) was held at Excelsior Hotel on August
2, 2008. It was co-organized by the Consulate-General of Japan in
Penang, the Japan Foundation in Kuala Lumpur and Perak Malaysian-Japanese
Friendship Society.
The first winner was Ms. Wong Mum Wei, with the speech I Have A
Dream, while Ms. Khit Kar Hong won the Second Prize, with her speech
How I Started To Learn Japanese Language. Both the winners will
represent Ipoh at the national level of the Speech Contest on August
24, 2008.
