Japanese Culture Workshop at Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Kubang Pasu
A Japanese culture workshop was held on Saturday, 8th January 2011 at
Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Kubang Pasu, Bukit Kayu Hitam. Two Japanese
volunteers went to the school to give the students some lessons on Japanese culture.
The workshop was divided into two sections, Yukata Class and Japanese Handicraft
Class conducted by Ms. Imura and Ms. Yamamura respectively. Seven students were
selected for the Yukata class and five students for the handicraft class. The
purpose of having this workshop is to train Form Two Japanese language students
in Yukata wearing and Japanese handicraft so they can teach their peers what
they have learned and share their knowledge on Japanese culture.
Ms. Imura taught the students how to wear both the female and male Yukata
in the Yukata Class. After wearing the Yukata by themselves, they paraded around the school.
In the handicraft class, the students learned how to make Japanese
style cards and framework under the guidance of Ms. Yamamura. They
used rabbit motives in the artwork in conjunction with the year of
the rabbit. Ms. Yamamura also taught the students some Japanese songs
accompanied by her keyboard at the end of their lessons.
The students enjoyed both classes very much as this was the first time
such workshop was held at the school. They also took the opportunity to
communicate in Japanese with both the teachers.
