Japan Festival 2011 at Universiti Teknologi MARA Pulau Pinang
This year’s Japan Festival was held at Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UiTM) Penang campus on 17 June 2011
as a part of commemorative event to mark UiTM Penang’s 15th anniversary. This event was organized by the
Consulate-General of Japan, Penang to introduce the Japanese culture to Malaysian students.
Students were introduced to some traditional Japanese cultural such as chado (Japanese tea ceremony) and ikebana (Japanese art of flower arrangement)
In the festival, the Japanese volunteers also showed the students how to wear the kimono, the traditional
Japanese clothing. The students also had a chance to wear the yukata, a casual version of kimono usually
worn in summer with the help of the volunteers.
An origami workshop was also held during the festival. Students tried to make some paper handicraft such as
boxes, top, crane, and frog using colourful origami paper and recycled newspapers.
The Japan Festival was also attended by students from Bukit Mertajam High School and Sekolah Menengah
Sains Kepala Batas. Over all the festival was a success as the students as well as the lecturers and teachers
enjoyed the activities and learned more about the Japanese culture
