On December 1st , Consul-General of Japan Mr. Kiyoshi ITOI hosted a reception on the occasion of the 83rd birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, Akihito, at The Eastern & Oriental Hotel with the attendance of YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang. The reception was also attended by Penang government officials, members of the consular corps, business circles, guests from various higher educational institutions and many more. Japanese exhibition panels were setup at the reception hall. Among those exhibitors were Sony, Canon, Toray, Fumakilla, Renesas, Iriichi, Sinaran Manufacturing, Toyohashi University of Technology and Penang Japanese School. In addition to Japanese product exhibition, the Consulate- General of Japan also set up a Hina-Ningyo (ornamental dolls) display. Japanese cuisine and Award winning wine from Japan were also served at the dinner. Throughout the course of the evening, many guests expressed their appreciation and delighted to attend the reception. H.M. Emperor Akihito is the 125th Emperor of Japan, and he acceded to the throne on January 7th , 1989 upon the demise of H.M. Emperor Hirohito. H.M. Emperor will turn 83 on December 23rd , 2016. |
