(Penang , 29 August ) The Foreign Minister's Commendations award ceremony was held at the official residence of Consul-General of Japan, Mr. Ryuji NODA. The two organizations from the State of Penang, Malaysia were presented the certificates of commendation of Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan for the fiscal year 2013. They are Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia (JAGAM) (Northern Branch) and Penang Japanese Language Society (PJLS). JAGAM (Northern Branch) has been promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Malaysia since its establishment in 1982. PJLS has been contributing to promotion of Japanese language education in Malaysia for over 30 years.

Mr. Noda congratulated awardees and expressed his appreciation for their support and cooperation towards strengthening ties between Penang, Malaysia and Japan.
The Foreign Minister's Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups of outstanding achievements in international fields, to acknowledge their contribution to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries. The Commendation also aims to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for their activities.
This year, the Commendation has been awarded to 97 individuals and 31 groups (of which 18 individuals and 6 groups are from Japan, and 79 individuals and 25 groups from overseas).
