Visit by Mr. Kuniaki Yamashita, Director for Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Bangkok Office

Mr. Itoi, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, received a visit by Mr. Kuniaki Yamashita, Director for Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Bangkok Office on 17 October 2017. Also present at the meeting were Ms. Noriko Furuya, Ms. Akiko Doi, and Mr. Kohei Saito from the said office as well as Mr. Masatoshi Soeda, Director of Japanese Cultural Centre, USM.
 

The JSPS founded in 1932, is an independent administrative institution for the purpose of contributing to the advancement of science in all fields of the natural and social sciences and humanities. It offers academic programs including several international programs which respond to a variety of needs of foreign countries.
 

In the meeting, Mr. Yamashita gave explanation on JSPS’s international programs as well as its activities in Malaysia. They shared the view on the importance of promoting academic exchanges between Malaysia and Japan. They have also exchanged opinions on the establishment of network towards further promoting bilateral academic exchanges here in Malaysia.
 

As promotion of bilateral exchanges through academic research plays an important role in the development of both countries, the Consulte-General of Japan in Penang will continue to actively support the organization and various programs it offers.
