Meeting with Representatives of the Malaysian-Japanese Society

On October 6th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, met with representatives of the Malaysian-Japanese Society (MJS), including President Choo Shing Lai, to exchange views on a range of topics. These included the Japanese cultural event “Penang Aki Matsuri Festival 2026,” scheduled to be held at Gurney Paragon Mall on November 21st and 22nd, as well as plans to further promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges, including the “Penang Bon Odori Festival.” The meeting was held in light of the significance of 2027, which marks both the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malaysia and the 60th anniversary of the founding of MJS.
Looking ahead to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malaysia and the 50th anniversary of the decision to establish the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang, the Consulate-General will strengthen its cooperation with MJS and other local organizations and remain committed to further promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges through Japanese culture.
