Meeting with YB Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, Member of the Penang State Legislative Assembly

On September 25th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, met with YB Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, Member of the Penang State Legislative Assembly for Pulau Tikus. YB Woo is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and currently serves as Publicity Secretary of DAP Penang.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on the upgrading of Penang’s manufacturing sector, the development of the semiconductor and AI sectors, and human resource development. YB Woo highlighted the importance of building on Penang’s strengths as a manufacturing hub while expanding into higher value-added areas such as design, as well as creating more opportunities for young people to engage with new technologies and industries.
Mr. Machida introduced initiatives by Japanese and Penang-based companies, as well as emerging collaboration between Japanese and Penang companies in the semiconductor and AI sectors. He also stressed the importance of further promoting human resource development and people-to-people exchanges, including student exchanges, in addition to business-to-business cooperation, to further develop Japan-Penang relations.
YB Woo also expressed his interest in visiting Japan and his willingness to support exchanges involving Japanese students visiting Penang. The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang will continue to deepen exchanges with YB Woo and other members of the Penang State Legislative Assembly, while further strengthening Japan-Penang relations across a wide range of fields, including industry, education and people-to-people exchanges.
