Consul-General Visits Japanese Firm in Kuala Kumpur

On September 11th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, together with representatives of Japanese companies, visited OKAYASU RUBBER (MALAYSIA) SDN.BHD., where he received a briefing on the company’s business operations and toured its manufacturing facilities.
Since its establishment in Malaysia in 1994, OKAYASU RUBBER (MALAYSIA) SDN.BHD. has developed its business mainly in the manufacture of rubber products. The company undertakes a wide range of processes, from rubber compound formulation to moulding, extrusion, die cutting, bonding and assembly, and supplies products for various sectors, including home appliances, automobiles and electronic equipment.
During the visit, the company briefed Mr. Machida on its business development, including diversification from home appliances into the automotive and electronics sectors, expansion into Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia and Thailand, proposals for products and manufacturing processes tailored to customer needs, and initiatives to promote automation and labour-saving measures. They also exchanged views on the company’s efforts to improve productivity by encouraging each production unit to manage costs and profitability and to undertake process improvements at the workplace level, against the backdrop of growing challenges in securing workers, including foreign workers.
During the factory tour, Mr. Machida received explanations on the various production processes, ranging from rubber compounding and mixing to injection moulding, compression moulding, extrusion, foaming, die cutting, inspection and assembly. The company also introduced its quality-control measures using image inspection, the automation of selected processes, and efforts to reduce tooling costs and the number of production processes through improvements in product design and manufacturing methods.
Mr. Machida also referred to his recent visits to Malaysian local companies, particularly in the semiconductor and automation sectors, and shared his observations on their growth and the potential for collaboration with Japanese companies. The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang will continue to deepen its understanding of the challenges faced by Japanese companies operating in Malaysia and their efforts to develop new business opportunities through such company visits, while working to further strengthen business ties between Japan and Malaysia.
