Consul-General Attends MOU Signing between Blue Santa Malaysia and MMI Care Association

On August 29th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the MOU signing ceremony between Blue Santa Malaysia and MMI Care Association held in Teluk Bahang, Penang, and witnessed the signing. The MOU aims to promote environmental awareness and encourage greater youth participation in environmental conservation activities.
MMI Care Association is an organisation engaged in the empowerment and educational support of young Malaysian Indian women and operates Miss Malaysia Indian Global. Through this MOU, participants in the programme are expected to take part in activities organised by Blue Santa Malaysia, a marine environmental conservation initiative originating in Japan, and deepen their understanding of marine environmental conservation and sustainability.
Following the signing ceremony, participants of Miss Malaysia Indian Global took part in a beach clean-up activity, which Mr. Machida also observed. He also exchanged views with representatives of MMI Care Association and the Director of the Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), on youth participation in environmental conservation activities and possible future exchanges and cooperation with Japan.
The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang will continue to support marine environmental conservation initiatives, including those of Blue Santa Malaysia, while encouraging the participation of young people and the wider community and further promoting exchanges and cooperation between Japan and Malaysia.
