Consul-General’s Call on Dato’ Dr. Jafri bin Abdul Jalil, State Secretary of Penang

          On August 26th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, paid a courtesy call on Dato’ Dr. Jafri bin Abdul Jalil, State Secretary of Penang. Mr. Machida congratulated Dato’ Dr. Jafri on his appointment and exchanged views with him on the future development of Penang and relations between Japan and Penang.

          During the meeting, they discussed the upgrading of Penang’s industries, the development of advanced industries including semiconductors, infrastructure development, human resource development, and exchanges between universities. Dato’ Dr. Jafri also spoke about his longstanding connections with Japan and his recent visit to Japan, and they exchanged views on the importance of further developing economic, educational and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Penang.

          Mr. Machida noted that Japan and Penang have developed broad-based relations over many years in such areas as the economy, education and culture. He expressed his intention to continue working to ensure the safety and security of Japanese nationals and a stable operating environment for Japanese companies, while further strengthening relations between Japan and Penang through industry-academia collaboration, human resource development, cultural exchange and other areas. The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang will continue to maintain close communication with the Penang State Government and work towards the further development of relations between Japan and Penang.
