JAGAM Japan Education Fair 2026

On August 22nd, the “JAGAM Japan Education Fair 2026,” organised by the Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia (JAGAM), was held in Penang. Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks. A wide range of educational institutions from Japan, including national, public and private universities, colleges of technology, vocational schools, Japanese-language schools and high schools, participated in the Fair. Many students and parents visited the respective booths and received first-hand information on academic programmes, scholarships, student life and future career opportunities. Information was also provided on Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships and study-in-Japan support offered by JASSO. The Fair concluded successfully with strong participation.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Gary Tang, President of JAGAM, introduced the diverse educational opportunities available in Japan, including not only universities but also colleges of technology and vocational schools, and explained various forms of support, including Japanese Government Scholarships. He also emphasised JAGAM’s role, as an organisation of former students in Japan, in providing students and parents with reliable information on studying in Japan. Looking ahead to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malaysia in 2027, he also expressed his intention to highlight the achievements of Malaysians who studied in Japan and have gone on to contribute in a wide range of fields, including academia, industry and business.
In his remarks, Mr. Machida expressed his respect for the longstanding efforts of JAGAM and its Northern Branch to promote study in Japan and educational and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Malaysia. He noted that the Fair brought together a diverse range of institutions, including not only universities but also colleges of technology, vocational schools, Japanese-language schools and high schools, demonstrating the wide variety of educational pathways available in Japan according to each student’s interests and future aspirations. He encouraged students and parents to ask frank and active questions directly to representatives of the participating institutions and to consider studying in Japan positively as one option for their future. He also expressed his hope that those who study in Japan will in the future become new bridges between Japan and Malaysia.
The Consulate-General hopes that, through this Fair, more young Malaysians will become aware of the diverse educational opportunities available in Japan and find pathways that best suit their interests and aspirations. Looking ahead to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malaysia and the 50th anniversary of the decision to establish the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang in 2027, the Consulate-General will continue to work closely with JAGAM and other relevant organisations to promote two-way educational exchanges, including not only Malaysian students studying in Japan but also Japanese students studying in Malaysia, and to further strengthen exchanges and networks among the next generation of Japan and Malaysia.
