Students from Setsunan University and Chubu University Visit the Consulate-General

On August 19th, students from Setsunan University and Chubu University visited the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang. The visit was part of an approximately 10-day study programme organised by the USM-Chubu University Centre, during which the students are taking part in visits to local universities and institutions, cultural experiences, and exchange activities in Penang.
Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, explained the role of the Consulate-General, relations between Japan and Malaysia, particularly northern Malaysia centred on Penang, the activities of Japanese companies in the region, and cultural and educational exchanges. Mr. Machida also encouraged the students to interact actively with local students and residents and to use the differences and questions they encounter during their stay as opportunities to gain new perspectives.
The Consulate’s Security Officer then briefed the students on safety precautions during their stay in Malaysia, including measures against pickpocketing, theft and snatch theft, as well as road safety. During the subsequent question-and-answer session, there was an active exchange of views on Japanese culture in Penang, local traffic conditions, and the activities of Japan’s diplomatic and consular missions in Malaysia.
The Consulate-General will continue to support people-to-people and educational exchanges between Japanese universities and northern Malaysia, while promoting further opportunities for younger generations to deepen mutual understanding.
