Visit to the Consulate-General by High School Students from Nagoya City

On August 11th, 19 students and two accompanying teachers from Nagoya City Seiryo High School, Nagoya City Nagoya Commercial High School, and Nagoya City Wakamiya Commercial High School visited the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang.
Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, explained the Consulate-General’s work in supporting Japanese residents and companies, and introduced the economic, cultural, youth and educational exchanges between Japan and northern Malaysia, particularly Penang. Mr. Machida also encouraged the students to take an interest in the differences between Japan and Malaysia and to interact actively with local people while experiencing Malaysia’s diverse ethnic, linguistic and religious society. An officer in charge of security affairs at the Consulate-General then explained, with specific examples, the precautions to be taken against theft, traffic accidents and other risks during their stay in Malaysia.
During the question-and-answer session, the students actively raised questions about the exchange programmes prioritised by the Consulate-General, its support for Japanese companies facing local challenges, and Malaysia’s traffic and environmental issues. Finally, a student representative expressed the group’s intention to use the experience gained through the visit to share more information about both Japan and Malaysia.
The Consulate-General will continue to support youth exchanges that deepen mutual understanding among the next generation.
