Consul-General Visits PKT Logistics Facilities

On August 5th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, visited the facilities of PKT Logistics in Kulim, Kedah, where he received a briefing from Dato’ Seri Michael Tio, Group Chief Executive and Managing Director, and other representatives of the company on its logistics operations and future business development, and toured the facilities.
During the visit, Mr. Machida was briefed on the company’s logistics system, under which automotive parts for BMW, Kia, Mazda and other manufacturers are consolidated, prepared according to vehicle models and production lots, and supplied to production lines on a just-in-time basis. In addition to the automotive sector, PKT Logistics also provides logistics services to semiconductor-related companies, including Lam Research, thereby supporting a broad range of manufacturing activities in northern Malaysia, particularly around Kulim Hi-Tech Park and Penang.
PKT Logistics also explained its wide-ranging support for foreign companies entering Malaysia, including the provision of warehouses and office space as well as training and human resource support. The company also introduced its development of facilities inspired by Japanese service areas, with a view to the future expansion of Kulim Hi-Tech Park. Both sides shared the view that support from local companies and relevant organizations is important in facilitating the entry of Japanese companies, particularly technology-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises, into northern Malaysia.
The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang will continue to follow developments in the automotive, electronics and semiconductor industries and other sectors in northern Malaysia, while supporting exchanges and cooperation between Japanese and local companies and contributing to the further development of economic relations between Japan and Malaysia.
