Consul-General Calls on YB Izhar Shah, Penang State Assemblyman

          On August 6th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, paid a courtesy call on YB Izhar Shah bin Datuk Arif Shah, Member of the Penang State Legislative Assembly, in Seberang Jaya. They exchanged views on the development of Penang and Seberang Jaya as well as future relations between Japan and Penang.
 
          YB Izhar Shah shared his efforts to support local communities in Seberang Jaya, including assistance for micro, small and medium-sized businesses, skills development, and improvements to public transport and pedestrian infrastructure. He also highlighted the importance of developing local entrepreneurs and SMEs, alongside major industries, for Penang’s future economic growth.
 
          The discussion also covered economic cooperation between Japan and Penang, community development, human resource development including positive discipline and work ethics, and cultural exchange between Japan and Malaysia. YB Izhar Shah expressed his interest in learning from Japan’s experience in discipline, culture, education and industrial development. They also exchanged views on possible Japanese cultural programmes and youth exchanges in Seberang Jaya.
 
          The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang will continue to promote exchanges and cooperation between Japan and Penang in the fields of community development, economy and culture through dialogue with a wide range of stakeholders in Penang.
