On August 3rd, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, received a courtesy call from Mr. Vince Yeoh Chye Lin, President of ROSE Charities Malaysia, Mr. Kevin Lee Lean Chye, Patron and financial supporter of the charity, and other representatives of the organisation.

The representatives provided an overview of the wide-ranging activities of ROSE Charities Malaysia, including health talks, cultural and educational programmes, social activities for its members, many of whom are senior citizens, and assistance for people facing financial hardship. They also exchanged views on the current state of charitable activities in Penang, ways of identifying those most in need of assistance, and approaches to making charitable work sustainable. Mr. Machida expressed his admiration for the organisation’s meaningful and community-based activities.

The representatives expressed their hope to strengthen cooperation with Japanese residents and Japan-related organisations in Penang through cultural exchanges, volunteer activities and other initiatives. In response, Mr. Machida stated that the Consulate-General would first seek to gain a deeper understanding of the organisation’s actual activities before considering specific areas of cooperation.

Recently, the Consulate-General has also incorporated initiatives relating to environmental conservation, crime prevention and other local social issues into events introducing Japanese culture. The Consulate-General will continue to strengthen its relationship with charitable organisations such as ROSE Charities Malaysia and explore opportunities to combine cultural exchange with contributions to the local community.
