Consul-General Attends the Executive Semiconductor AI Session – From Semiconductor Know-How to AI ROI

On July 30th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the Executive Semiconductor AI Session – From Semiconductor Know-How to AI ROI, organized by Ashisuto Global Technologies Sdn. Bhd. and PROFET AI, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the Main Sponsor, VSTECS as the Supporting Partner, and the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) as the Strategic Partner. Mr. Machida delivered the closing remarks.
Following the opening address by YB Tuan Jagdeep Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang in charge of Science, Technology and Human Talent Development, speakers from MSIA, Ashisuto Global Technologies, PROFET AI, AWS, and the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Association delivered presentations on the current state of AI adoption in Malaysia and globally, the application of AI in the semiconductor industry, AI agents, cloud infrastructure, AI governance, and the return on investment (ROI) of AI. Practical case studies were also presented, demonstrating how manufacturing know-how can be integrated with AI to drive business transformation and enhance industrial competitiveness.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Machida introduced Japan’s vision of AI Transformation (AX) and highlighted Japan’s efforts to integrate AI with robotics. As a practical example, he introduced CYBERDYNE’s Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL), which he recently observed during his visit to the PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre. He emphasized that AI should complement human capabilities rather than replace them and contribute to addressing social challenges. He also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation by leveraging the respective strengths of Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, the United States, and other partners.
Networking sessions were also held following the seminar. Mr. Machida exchanged views with the organizers and representatives from participating companies and organizations on potential Japan–Malaysia cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, semiconductors, manufacturing, and human resource development. The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang will continue to promote closer cooperation between Japan and Malaysia in AI, semiconductors, and innovation.
