On July 30th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the Annual Luncheon hosted by the Northern Branch of the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI). The luncheon brought together the Right Honourable Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, senior officials of the Penang State Government, representatives of government agencies, business associations and companies for active discussions under the theme, “Beyond 2030: Navigating Global Challenges, Unlocking New Opportunities.”

The Chief Minister outlined Penang’s strategy to transform the state from “Made in Penang” to “Made by Penang” by promoting high value-added industries, research and development, and human capital development while addressing challenges such as geopolitical risks, changes in global supply chains, talent development and infrastructure. He also emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue between the State Government and the business community in strengthening Penang’s long-term competitiveness.

For many years, the MICCI Northern Branch has played an important role in facilitating constructive dialogue between the State Government and the business community, thereby contributing to enhancing Penang’s industrial competitiveness. The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang will continue to strengthen its cooperation with the Penang State Government, MICCI and other business organizations, as well as Japanese companies, to further promote economic relations between Japan and Penang.
