Consul-General’s Visit to the PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre

On July 28th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, visited the PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre in Perak State, where he received a briefing from the Centre’s officials on its facilities, rehabilitation services for patients, support for return to work, and the use of advanced technologies.
The Centre operates under the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), which is under the Ministry of Human Resources of Malaysia. It is equipped with medical, rehabilitation, vocational training, and residential facilities for patients, and provides comprehensive support tailored to each patient’s condition in a bright and welcoming environment, with the aim of helping them regain their health and rebuild their lives.
The Centre utilizes advanced rehabilitation technologies, including the HAL (Hybrid Assistive Limb) wearable cyborg developed by Japan’s CYBERDYNE Inc., with which it has collaborated since 2018, to support patients in regaining mobility and physical functions. It also offers vocational training programmes, including barista skills, culinary and confectionery training, and automotive maintenance, to help patients return to work or pursue new employment opportunities.
Through the visit, Mr. Machida reaffirmed the progress of cooperation between Japan and Malaysia in the fields of healthcare, welfare, and advanced technology, and was pleased and proud to see Japanese technology contributing to addressing social challenges in Malaysia and improving people’s quality of life. The Consulate-General will continue to support such bilateral cooperation and actively promote its achievements.
