Consul-General’s Attendance at the Opening Ceremony of PIHEX 2026 and HUBPP 2026

On July 25th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the opening ceremony of the Penang International Halal Expo 2026 (PIHEX 2026) and Himpunan Usahawan Bumiputera Pulau Pinang 2026 (HUBPP 2026), held at Politeknik Seberang Perai in Permatang Pauh, Penang.
The ceremony was attended by the Honourable Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia; the Honourable Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abdul Hamid, Deputy Chief Minister I of Penang; and representatives of the federal and state governments, business organisations, and private companies. Prime Minister Anwar spoke about the global development of the halal industry, the development of Bumiputera human resources and enterprises, the promotion of high-value-added industries, including the semiconductor industry, and the importance of inclusive economic development involving people of all ethnic backgrounds. A wide range of companies, including those involved in halal products and services, food, manufacturing, and the semiconductor industry, exhibited at the venue, which attracted many visitors.
The event provided an opportunity to deepen understanding of the efforts of the Malaysian Government and the Penang State Government to promote the development of the Bumiputera community while encouraging broad participation regardless of ethnicity and pursuing balanced economic development. The Consulate-General will continue to closely follow developments in the halal and semiconductor industries and work to further strengthen economic relations between Japan and Malaysia, as well as between Japan and Penang.
