On May 19th, Mr. Shinya MACHIDA, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the “AI Horizon International Engagement Dialogue 2026” (hosted by Jagdeep Singh, Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang) held at the Penang State Government Complex. Penang State is strengthening its engagement with the AI industry, and the purpose of this meeting was to encourage participation from various countries in “AI Horizon 2026” (scheduled for October and held last year as well), including the participation of AI companies at booths and experts in discussions. Honorary consuls from several countries also attended, and there was a lively question-and-answer session. Since AI is a field that the current Japanese government has designated as a strategically important industry, it is meaningful to discuss potential collaboration with Penang. I have decided to suggest to the conference secretariat that they consider inviting Japanese AI experts.
