2026/3/9
On March 9th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the opening ceremony of “The International Halal Science and Technology Conference 2026,” held at the SHIP Campus of PKT Logistics, and delivered an opening remark. Dato’ Sri Michael Tio, Chairman and Managing Director of PKT Logistics, serves as the representative of Osaka University in Malaysia. He helped organize this joint international conference between Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Osaka University (which brought together government, business, and academic representatives from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, and Canada) at the SHIP Campus. Mr. Machida noted the importance of the halal industry and stated that standardization of halal certification is necessary to export safe, high-quality Japanese agricultural products to Islamic countries, expressing his hope that this issue would be appropriately discussed at the conference. The Consulate-General hopes Japanese companies will continue to benefit from the global halal industry without compromising Japanese food culture.
