Hina Matsuri Celebration & Children Karate Competition 2026

On March 15, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the Japanese cultural event “Hina Matsuri Celebration & Children Karate Competition” held at Straits Quay, Penang, together with YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE). The event was organised by the Malaysian-Japanese Society (MJS), co-organised by the Penang Japanese Association, Storm Karate Club, and Penang Adventist Hospital, with the support of PETACE.
The lively event attracted many visitors and featured a variety of programs, including a display of Hina dolls, a matcha tea tasting, a children’s karate competition, and health screenings provided by Penang Adventist Hospital, as well as booths offering Japanese sweets and Japan-related goods. The Consulate-General of Japan also set up a cultural exchange booth, where origami and kirigami workshops were held and Japanese cultural items were displayed.
