On February 11th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, visited the “Snake Temple” (established in 1805; official name: “Temple of the Azure Clouds”) in the Bayan Lepas area of Penang Island. This temple was built to enshrine the revered monk Chor Soo Kong, who originated from Fujian Province over 1,000 years ago. Today, it stands as one of the representative cultural heritages of Fujianese descendants. Mr. Machida enjoyed and learned about the unique blend of Taoism, Buddhism, and tourism found at this site. The Consulate-General intends to continue fostering mutual understanding through exchanges with local citizens.
