Consul-General Attends Menicon Factory Opening Ceremony

On February 5th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the opening ceremony for Menicon Malaysia Sdn Bhd's factory held at Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) in the State of Kedah. The company, which already operates a factory in Singapore, sought a larger and expandable factory site in this region, leading to its decision to establish operations at KHTP. The new factory mass-produces daily disposable contact lenses. Although the highly automated facility employs only several hundred workers, it is expected to contribute to technology transfer within Kedah. The Consulate-General intends to provide support, including representations to relevant authorities, for Japanese companies operating at KHTP, including Menicon.
