Consul-General Attends Waste Collection and Recycling Company’s Commemorative Event
2026/1/31
On January 31st, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the 20th anniversary event of MEP Enviro Technology Sdn Bhd held at the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWC), to which he was invited. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and others were also in attendance. Established in 2005, MEP is a Penang-based waste collection and recycling company specializing in the recovery and resource conversion of electronic waste (e-waste), plastics, ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The anniversary event also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MEP and Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo, with whom it has formed a joint venture. This venture is gaining attention as one of Penang's circular economy industries. As a mature example of Japan-Malaysia (Penang) relations, the Consulate-General intends to monitor its progress closely.
