Consul-General 's Visit to Universiti Teknologi Petronas

On November 27th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, visited Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Perak State and paid a courtesy call on Chancellor Mohamad Firuz Asnan. UTP is a private engineering university with a large campus in central Perak. Its mission is, as I understand, to providing lifelong learning, to create a better future at the forefront of technical education and research to drive innovation and to tackle real-world challenges by leveraging interdisciplinary potential, and to develop groundbreaking solutions that transform industry and society. Regarding partnerships with Japanese universities, I suggested that pursuing double degree programs in doctoral courses, as seen in other cases, might be one option. At UTP, we also visited an open library designed to resemble an oil terminal, and I found it meaningful for promoting future exchanges to see that there are many Japanese language learners there.
