Consul-General Visits Malaysia Pavilion at Osaka-Kansai Expo
2025/5/3

Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, visited the Malaysia pavilion at Osaka-Kansai Expo on May 3, when temporarily back in Japan. The pavilion, designed by Mr. Kengo Kuma an esteemed Japanese architect, was extremely impressive both during the day and at night when it was illuminated. Inside the pavilion, dioramas and animated characters explain the history/current status of each Malaysian state and the future of Malaysia, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of Malaysia as a whole. They briefed Mr. Machida that daily number of visitors to the pavilion is said to be between 10,000 and 20,000 and that the commercial space serving Malaysian food and other items generates several million yen a week in revenue. The Consulate General intends to help the State of Penang in reaffirming Penang's attractiveness among the Japanese people during the upcoming Penang Week (late September) at the Malaysian pavilion.
