On 16th September 2023, Consul General Kawaguchi participated in the opening ceremony of the Penang Yosakoi Parade 2023 at Karpal Singh Drive, together with YB Jagdeep Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang, YB Lim Siew Khim, Penang State EXCO for Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Affairs and ADUN Sungai Pinang, Y. Bhg. Dato Ir. Rajendran, Mayor of Penang Island City and Ms. Emi Yamazaki, President of the Pink Hibiscus Club.
The very lively event drew crowds of people until late at night, with 26 teams participating in the dance parade, many Japan-related goods, amusement corners, food and drink stands, and many more. The Consulate-General of Japan set up a booth to display Japanese cultural items and to distribute publicity materials on Japan.
