Greetings from Consul-General Kawaguchi
2022/10/6
I would like to thank all the residents, the Japanese residents in the six northern states of Malaysia(Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Perak)for your continued understanding and cooperation in the activities of the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang. My name is KAWAGUCHI Yoshiyasu, and I assumed my post as Consul-General of Japan in Penang, as successor to the former Consul-General Mr. ORIKASA. It is my pleasure to meet you.
2022 marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Malaysia diplomatic relations, and the 40th anniversary of the Look East Policy. Furthermore, 2023 marks the 50th Year of the ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. I feel the weight of relations that many people of Japan and Malaysia, including the six northern states, have cultivated for many years, and the necessity to devote myself to the promotion of the relations, assuming the post as the Consul-General at this important timing within the long-standing relations between Japan and Malaysia.
At the headquarters in Tokyo, I served mainly in the International Cooperation Bureau. When it comes to the overseas diplomatic establishments, I served at the Embassies of Japan in Russia, Ukraine, and at the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations in New York. This is my first time in Malaysia to be working. First of all, I would like to personally see the six northern states, to talk to many people here, and to know about the states and Malaysia. I look forward to working in this country of eternal summer.
Those who have been to Japan through the Look East Policy are engaged in activities in various spheres of society in the six northern states, too. According to my predecessor Mr. ORIKASA, with 4,000 Japanese residents, 200 Japanese companies, 30 Japan related organizations, the presence of Japan in the six states is prominent.
Only recently have we been able to talk about the possible end of the COVID-19 pandemic. My main mission here as the Consul-General is to promote as lubricant the friendly relations that peoples of Japan and Malaysia have cultivated during a long period of time in the six northern states, and provide the necessary, appropriate administrative services to Japanese residents, as the former Consul-Generals have done so, with the utmost efforts.
I look forward to your continued understanding and cooperation.
Thank you in advance.
