VISA APPLICATION
Since the 1st July 2013 Malaysian nationals holding biometric ordinary passport compliance with ICAO standard are not required to obtain visas if their visits are a short term stay not more than 90 days and they are not going to be engaged in remunerative activities in Japan.
However, when Malaysian nationals engage in paid activities in Japan, or their periods of stay exceed more than 90 days and foreigners from countries or regions for Non-Visa Exemptions need to apply for a visa to enter Japan.

Our Consulate will accept visa applications from those who live and work in Penang, Kedah, Perlis, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu.
Foreigners from countries or regions for Non-Visa exemptions must meet the criteria below:
(1) You are a permanent resident in Malaysia with Malaysia PR card or
(2) You have a Malaysia long term Pass (Employment / Student / Dependant / MM2H* / Maid, etc.,) whose validity at least 6 months upon submission of visa application (* MM2H holders must reside continuously for at least 6 months in Malaysia).
The applicants may need to submit extra documents in addition to the required documents which are announced on the above Web site or interview at our Consulate for the examination process.
Please note that any foreign nationals including Malaysians who fall under some of the following conditions will not be allowed to enter Japan with visa exemption system:
(1) A person who has been deported from Japan for overstaying and the stipulated period of denial of landing has not elapsed from the date of deportation.
(2) A person who has been convicted of violation of any law or regulation of Japan or any other countries, and has been sentenced to imprisonment with or without work for 1 year or more or equivalent penalty.
