THE 33rd  JAPANESE LANGUAGE SPEECH CONTEST 2012

The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang and the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur with the co-operation of the Penang Japanese Language Society and Malaysian Japanese Society, will be organizing the 33rd  Japanese Language Speech Contest on 5th May 2012.

The objective of this contest is to deepen the understanding among Malaysian Japanese language learners on the importance of cross-cultural communications. Besides that, this contest is to provide a platform for Japanese language learners to express their opinions and thoughts in Japanese.

Student Category
  Open Category (Malaysians aged 17 years and above and who have
not stayed in Japan for more than 90 days)
Venue :
Kompleks Masyarakat Penyayang Pulau Pinang (Caring Society Complex), Jalan Utama,Penang.
Speech :
The speech can be of any topic and within 6 minutes length
Prize :
The top three winners from the Penang Preliminary (Open Category only) will stand a chance to compete in the National Level in Kuala Lumpuron 13th May 2012 at 13:00, at Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur. The first prize winner of the National Level will be rewarded with an all-paid study
tour to Japan while the second prize winner will receive an air ticket to Japan.

Rules and Regulations:

1. Eligibility
(a) Applicants must be:
(i) A Malaysian citizen who has not undergone compulsory education in Japan;
(ii) 17 years and above; and who has NOT stayed in Japan for 90 days or more;
(iii) A non-native Japanese speaker whose neither parents is a Japanese

(b) Previous contestants who have won a study tour award to Japan and students from the Japanese preparatory course will not be eligible to apply.

* If you are not eligible, we might consider you as a guest speaker. Please contact us if you are interested.

2. Theme and Length of Speech, Manuscript
The speech can be of any topic and within 6 minutes length. The manuscript submitted must be an original work of the contestant and has not been presented in any other contest or event. The Consulate-General of Japan in Penang reserves the rights for all entries received.

3. Procedure

(a) Contestants must submit their manuscript together with a completed Entry Form before 16th April 2012 and send to:

(b) Contestants will be selected by a panel of judges based on the evaluation of the manuscripts received.
(c) The top 3 winners from Penang Preliminary Open Category will compete in the 28th Japanese Language Speech Contest for Open Category National Level in Kuala Lumpur with other finalists from Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh Preliminaries.
